Godstone man jailed for arranging to have sex with 14-year-old boy
A Godstone man who arranged to meet with two children with the intention of having sex with a 14-year-old boy has been sentenced to three years in jail.
Simon Landsberg, of High Street, in Godstone, pleaded guilty to one count of facilitating the commission of a child sex offence at a hearing in April this year and was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court earlier today (Friday, September 15).
Mary Walford, prosecuting the case, told the court how Landsberg first came to the attention of the police after they became concerned by the nature of his conduct with a convicted sex offender.
From there Police noticed the 65-year-old had initiated contact with a 16-year-girl.
Ms Walford described how this contact was “explicit and sexual” in nature and involved Landsberg asking the girl to send him pictures of herself naked.
Through the girl Landsberg was put in contact with a 14-year-old boy who he also then had conversations of a sexual nature with.
Ms Walford said Landsberg had asked if the boy was masturbating, discussed how he wanted to have sex with him and encouraged the boy to rape the 16-year-old girl.
The court heard how Landsberg set up a meeting between him, the boy and the girl and that he was “using the boy’s desire to have sex with the girl as his motivation to have sex with [the boy]”.
Ms Walford added a message sent to the boy described how Landsberg had a “Land Rover with no back windows and a nice mattress”.
The arranged meeting was planned for December 15 last year however police became aware of the situation and moved in and arrested Landsberg on December 13 – before any of the three had ever met.
When his home was searched by police they found a number of weapons, including “a machete, a dagger and a bb gun” as well as other concerning items including “handcuffs, a large order of sleeping pills and satanic literature”.
Judge Robert Frazer said it was “thankful” police stepped in before anything more serious could have taken place.
In reference to the mitigation provided, judge Fraser said: “You have not been able to offer any other reason for your behaviour.
“On the face of it this is an out of character offence but it is a very serious offence as it includes arrangements for penetrative sex, as well as elements of grooming and deception.”
As well as three year in prison Landsberg will be placed on the sexual offenders register for life and a restraining order preventing him from contacting the teenagers was also issued.
