Bus pervert jailed
A sex attacker who made a schoolgirl watch porn while abusing her on a Birmingham bus has been jailed for two years.
Michael Stephens, 34, also molested another passenger who “bravely” took a photo of him.
On February 7 this year the girl, who was wearing school uniform, had been travelling on a No 11 bus when the pervert got on and sat on a nearby seat.
Stephens, of Washwood Heath Road,Washwood Heath, then asked her where the bus was at that moment and whether he could sit next to her.
She refused but he ignored her, stroking her leg and running his hand up to the hem of her skirt.
“He was using his other hand to watch pornography on his mobile phone,” said Alison Scott Jones, prosecuting at Birmingham Crown Court.
“He deliberately tilted the phone towards her so she could not avoid seeing the footage.
“She felt scared, humiliated and embarrassed, moved away and later told her grandmother what had happened.”
He rubbed his hand on her leg from he knee to her thigh.
“She was scared stiff and completely froze,” said Mr Jones. “The defendant appeared to be texting, while doing this.”
Miss Scott Jones said the victim took a photo of Stephens after moving away, which was later given to the police.
The bus driver could see that the woman was distressed and tried to chase after the defendant as he fled.
Stephens had previously admitted two charges of sexual assault and causing harassment alarm and distress
In sentencing him to two years, Judge Mary Stacey said: “These were three serious offence which each involved the humiliation and degradation of women, of varying ages, on a bus.”
She said Stephens had a “controlling and manipulative” nature and she praised the bravery of the victims.
The judge also made a sexual offences prevention order, which banned Stephens from watching pornography on public transport and ordered him to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
