Man admits Eden Valley indecent assaults on child

A pervert has been warned he could be sent to prison for repeatedly molesting a child in the Eden Valley.

Roger David Cook, 50, went on trial at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday.

Cook had denied a dozen charges – all of which alleged that he indecently assaulted a child aged under 16.

But today Cook changed his plea to three of the charges and admitted indecent assaults which occurred in the Appleby area during a period spanning two years.

Jurors had heard Cook repeatedly molested the youngster and then “bought” secrecy and silence with “threats of violence”.

At the direction of Judge Tony Lancaster, jurors returned not guilty verdicts on the remaining nine charges after hearing no evidence would be offered on those by the prosecution.

Judge Lancaster adjourned the case until October 20, when Cook, of Trotternish Avenue, Staffin, Isle of Skye, will be sentenced.

In the meantime, background reports were ordered, and he was granted conditional bail.

He was told by the judge he must now sign the sex offenders’ register, and warned he could be jailed for his crimes.
