Paedophile complains he was jailed for too long, complains to court and gets MORE time in prison
A “brutal” paedophile who raped a 15-year-old girl has been given extra time behind bars for trying top judges’ patience with a hopeless appeal.
David Atkinson, 64, “used dreadful threats” to “secure the compliance” of his victim who he first abused when she was just 11.
Atkinson, of Cleveland Close, Nottingham, was jailed for 17 years at Leeds Crown Court in November last year.
He was convicted of rape, attempted rape and six counts of indecent assault.
Today at London’s Appeal Court, he asked Sir Kenneth Parker to reduce that term, protesting that he had been treated too harshly.
But the judge, sitting with Lord Justice Simon and Mr Justice Holgate, threw out his challenge.
Instead, the judge took the rare step of handing him an extra 28 days behind bars for wasting the court’s time.
Sir Kenneth ruled Atkinson richly deserved every day of the time he was given at the Crown Court, and more.
“He raped her knowing that she had been raped by another man, then brutally threatened to kill her if she told anybody what he had done.
“There is no merit whatsoever in this renewed application for permission to appeal,” the judge concluded.
