Jail for Ashford man who tried to handcuff and kidnap girl, 14, at bus stop
An Ashford man who tried to use toy handcuffs to kidnap a schoolgirl he wanted to sexually assault has been jailed for 22 months.
Thomas Bevan, 22, of Osbourne Road in Willesborough, appeared at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to the charges of attempted kidnap, theft, three counts of possessing indecent images of children, one count of possessing prohibited images of children and two counts of making indecent images of a child at the same court on July 7.
The charges followed the attempted kidnap of a 14-year-old girl who was waiting for a bus in Smeeth on March 7 when he grabbed her without warning, took her rucksack and attempted to use a pair of handcuffs on her.
Distressed, the victim ran away to another bus stop to get help from her friend.
Following enquiries Kent Police officers were able to identify Bevan and arrested him at his home the following day.
The girl’s rucksack was seized, which Bevan had been hiding under his bed, along with his computer equipment and mobile phone. Officers later discovered a number of indecent images.
Bevan made it clear he planned to kidnap and sexually assault this young girl and claimed his desires had been spurred on by visiting internet chat rooms and looking at indecent images.
