Jailed: Bedfordshire police officer who had almost 7,000 indecent images and videos of children

A disgraced former Bedfordshire police officer has today been jailed after admitting possession of almost 7,000 child sex abuse images and videos, as well filming himself performing a sex act in a child’s bedroom while on duty investigating crimes

Jamal Hassan – who until recently held the rank of detective constable – pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of children, possession of an extreme pornographic image, outraging public decency, four counts of misconduct, and perverting the course of justice.

Three of the misconduct in public office charges relate to Hassan filming himself in people’s bedrooms – including the child’s – with underwear while on duty. The fourth involved him making a covert recording of a child in a police interview room.

Judge Sean Enright jailed the 36-year-old paedophile for a total of six years at Peterborough Crown Court today, slamming his actions as “gross abuse of his position of trust”.

Beds police had already dismissed Hassan without notice for gross misconduct at a special case hearing earlier this month.

He has today been made subject to a sexual harm prevention order lasting 15 years, and placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Police were notified on May 16 that Hassan’s online activity could indicate an improper interest in children.

The next morning, officers from Cambridgeshire police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team arrested Hassan at his home in Luton.

He was immediately suspended from duty.

Searches of Hassan’s home revealed almost 7,000 indecent images and videos of children stored on various devices. Further examination revealed inappropriate videos that Hassan had made of himself at various locations – including some in victims’ homes, dating back to 2006 and 2009.

Evidence was also gathered which showed Hassan had destroyed other storage devices in a bid to cover his tracks.
