Ex-prison officer avoids jail for possessing indecent images of children
A former prison officer who admitted making more than 2,000 indecent images of children has been put on the Sex Offender Register for five years.
James Jennings, aged 47, had previously pleaded guilty at Plymouth Crown Court to three charges of downloading sick pictures over a six-year period.
The first offence was that between January 3, 2010 and November 19, 2016 he made 326 indecent images of children, of which 298 still images and 29 moving images were Category A – deemed the most severe.
The remaining images and movies were of Category B and C amounting to a total of 2,149 indecent images.
Judge Paul Darlow noted that Jennings, of Truro Drive in Whitleigh, was a former prison officer, although it was not revealed which prison he worked at.
He sentenced Jennings to six months imprisonment, suspended for two years. In addition, Jennings had to sign onto the Sex Offenders Register for five years and be subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five year.
Jennings must also pay £500 in court costs and forfeit a laptop and mobile phone seized by police which held the indecent images.
