Hotel worker had abuse images of children as young as two
A hotel worker was found with ‘appalling’ images of children as young as two when police examined his laptop.
Daniel Tolca claimed he had downloaded the images out of curiosity while surfing the internet for adult pornography but a judge told him he did so because he had a sexual interest in children.
Tolca lost his job at a hotel in Torbay as a result of his arrest because it was used by families in children, Exeter Crown Court was told.
His computer was seized by police who were investigating an unconnected offence and the images were found while it was being examined.
He had 78 images in category A which are the worst type and show adults having sex with young children. There were 97 at B and 531 at the lowest category C.
Tolca, aged 36, of Forest Road, Torquay, admitted three offences of making indecent images of children and was jailed for a year, suspended for 18 months by Judge Graham Cottle.
He was ordered to undertake a sex offenders course during 50 days probation rehabilitation. He was also ordered to sign on the sex offender register and made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order which will allow the police to monitor his online activity.
The judge told him :”The descriptions of these images make for appalling reading when one sees how young the children were. The worrying aspect of this case is that you make no explanation beyond curiosity.
“That is not good enough. People don’t look at these images because they are curious. They do so because they have a sexual interest in children. Until you recognise that, not progress will be made.
“Some of these children are aged two to five and you must understand they are victims of the most appalling abuse imaginable. Just saying you are ashamed is not half of it.”
Richard Crabb, prosecuting, said the images were found in February this year when police examined Tolca’s computer in connection with another inquiry.
