Pervert blamed indecent images on ‘pop-ups’
A paedophile caught with more than 150 child sexual abuse images on his computer said they were only there because they ‘popped up’ while he was looking at other porn, a court has heard.
Keith Rogers, 68, most recently or Morrab Road in Penzance, appeared at Truro Crown Court to be sentenced after previously admitting three counts of making indecent images of children.
Prosecutor Jason Beal told the court that police attended Rogers’ then address in Redruth on September 9 2015 executing a search warrant under The Protection of Children Act.
During the search they seized computer equipment and Rogers told police that he used the computer to access adult porn and that occasionally indecent images of children had popped up.
However, he did admit internet searches for terms such as ‘teen’ and ‘lolita’.
In total police discovered 14 Category A images, 27 Category B images and 119 Category C images, all of which had been deleted.
Children featured in the images were aged six and above and Rogers told police that he liked models made to look young, but thought they were 18.
Defending Rogers, Robin Smith said that he had no previous relevant convictions before.
Sentencing Rogers, Judge Simon Carr said: “In the report I’ve read you seek to minimise what you did and it’s because people like you are prepared to download these images that tens of thousands of children around the world are raped and abused for your entertainment.
“You are in a way every bit as responsible as the person raping the child.”
Judge Carr handed Rogers an eight month prison sentence, suspended for two years and ordered that he undertake the Horizon Programme so he can “confront what he is and is responsible for”.
He will also be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must sign the sex offenders’ register.
