Violent child rapist abused young boy
A violent child rapist has been found guilty of sexually abusing a young boy after subjecting him to a “horrific reign of abuse” that was carried out over a number of years.
David Norman Hazell, of Gaydon in Warwickshire appeared at Coventry Crown Court where he denied a string of serious sexual offences against a young boy.
Depraved Hazell continued to deny 20 sexual offences charges he faced which forced the victim to relive the abuse by giving evidence during a trial.
Although Hazell attended the court, he refused to stand or defend himself when questioned by the prosecution.
After seven days of the trial, the jury returned an unanimous verdict of guilt which covered ten charges in total which included the rape of a male child aged under 13 and the rape and sexual assault of a female aged over 18
The police was first made aware of the abuse when the boy told his mother he had been molested
Officers launched an investigation and it was discovered that Hazell’s offending had been going on for more than 8 years.
The court was told that the boy was just four years old when the abuse began, and it continued until he reached 12.
During repeated sexual attacks, Hazell carried out violent acts and threats to silence the victim. He told the boy that he would rape and then kill his mother.
On other occasions when the boy resisted, he would be physically hurt.
A date of 25th September was set for the sentencing.
The young victim continues to be deeply affected by the abuse.
The boy started to self harm from the age of 6, by biting and cutting himself. He has also made repeated attempts to take his own life.
Fearing that his abuser may find him and hurt him or his mother for speaking out, the boy was admitted to a specialist hospital where he received counselling and medication to help him cope with the traumatic incidents he endured.
The court heard that the boy now suffers from post traumatic stress disorder, severe depression, OCD and has recurring panic attacks and flashbacks.
