Paedophile jailed for abusing girls
A PAEDOPHILE who avoided justice for 30 years has finally been jailed for sexually abusing five schoolgirls.
Alan Perkins, 60, was locked up for six years, for repeatedly abusing the young victims, aged ten to 14.
Some of the victims were also offered cash to perform sex acts on Perkins and one of the girls was even sexually assaulted while sitting in a car in Leigh Road.
All the victims had to give evidence against Perkins, who was convicted after a trial last month. He was found guilty of 12 offences of indecency with a child and seven offences of indecent assault, all of which occurred between 1976 and 1979.
At Basildon Crown Court on Friday Judge Overbury told Perkins: “It is something that lives with all the complainants and will live with them for the rest of their lives.
“I have read the victims personal statements and it is plain the effect of what you did, although in some cases, but not all, it is a distant memory.
“Your approach to these girls, all of them, was planned. None of the offences can be described as opportunistic or spontaneous.
“You tested the water with these young girls to see if they might be susceptible to your sexual advances and when you had the opportunity to touch them or get them to touch you, you did so.”
Judge Overbury also banned the father-of-two from ever working with children and imposed a sexual offences prevention order.
The order bans Perkins, of Sheridan Close, Rayleigh, indefinitely from living at an address where anyone under 16 is present, seeking or being in the company of a convicted sex offender or communicating in any way with anyone under 16.
The defendant is also prohibited from being alone with a child under 16 unless their parent or guardian is present, attending a club where children under 16 are present or refusing entry to a monitoring officer visiting his home to police the order.
Perkins will now have to sign on the sex offenders register for life.
