Newbury man convicted of child sexual offences

A paedophile who believed he was grooming a young child for sex has been jailed after being exposed by online child protection team Total Expsoure

Barry Skinner, aged 34 of Gaywood Drive, Newbury was charged with six offences relating to children, including attempting to cause or incite a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity

The court was told that after police arrested Skinner, a search of his home was carried out. The police analysed his computer and found that as well as communicating with a decoy from Total Exposure, a real girl aged 13 was also being groomed for sex.

A trial was scheduled for November, but Skinner finally pleaded guilty to all of the charges he faced, after overwhelming evidence was presented against him

Skinner, who had been on remand since May, was sentenced to a total of three years and four months imprisonment

He was given a sexual harm prevention order and was told to register as a sex offender
