Paedophile from Wrexham is jailed for nine years for abusing boy
A paedophile who blackmailed his boy victim by holding his cat outside an upstairs window and bribed him with money and sweets has been jailed for nine years.
George Owen, 61, of Colliery Road, Wrexham, pleaded guilty at Caernarfon crown court yesterday to seven charges of abusing the vulnerable boy in the 1990s.
There had also been times when Owen got another boy to sexually touch the victim, said Mark Connor, prosecuting. At one stage Owen was manager of a hotel at Penmaenmawr.
Mr Connor said the victim felt guilty that he hadn’t reported the abuse earlier because he feared there could have been other boys involved.
In 1982 Owen had been convicted of abusing boys he’d given a lift in his ice cream van at Bethesda.
Defence barrister Simon Mills said Owen would now be closely monitored by the authorities for the rest of his life.
“He’s obviously going to have to recreate his life when he is released from prison” he added.
Judge Huw Rees told Owen he had groomed, bribed and blackmailed the victim for his own purpose.
“You would blackmail him, occasionally threatening to kill his cat by holding it out of the window,” he said.
The sexual abuse had a devastating effect.
A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was imposed and Owen must sign the sex offenders’ register, both for life.
