Former Reading councillor avoids jail after being found with indecent images of children
A former councillor who had to resign after a racism row has avoided jail after police found indecent images of children and bestiality on computers at his home.
Warren Swaine was found to have pictures of girls as young as 13 and 14 years being abused by men, when officers searched the computers.
Prosecutor Alan Blake told the court that one of the worst images featured a young girl being raped by two men
Swaine was previously a councillor with Reading Borough Council but was forced to resign in 2011 after controversial remarks about a Labour MP
Today, he was sentenced for two counts of making indecent photographs of children and one count of possessing extreme pornographic images when he appeared before a judge at Reading Crown Court.
The extreme porn involved acts of bestiality.
Mr Blake said: “Officers executing a warrant were attending his home address and removed a standard amount of electronic equipment.
“He was interviewed that day and stated he used one of the hard drives for ‘vintage pornography’. There was another laptop that had peer-to-peer software running and there was an old tower computer he had built himself.
“It was apparent he had some expertise and had some employment experience in the IT field,” said the prosecutor.
The barrister told the court descriptions of the worst images were given by Police constable Timothy Lloyd.
He said: “There were 30,000 images protected in a cache – 3,000 contained words such as ‘Lolita’ which led to concerns about their substance.
“One of the laptops had 98 images of schoolgirls
The judge sentenced Swaine, of Church Street, near Reading town centre, to serve a community order for a period of two years on all three counts which means he must fulfill a rehabilitation requirement.
Swaine must also pay £535 in costs and will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years.
