Man found guilty of sexual assault of young girl
A man accused of sexually assaulting a schoolgirl has been convicted by a jury
Maidstone Crown Court heard that Damian Powell, 45 of Catlyn Close, West Malling had denied the sexual assault of a female child aged under 13, but was found guilty at the trial.
The prosecution told the court that Powell was arrested after the girl had started to show ‘sexualised’ behaviour.
On one occasion, she demonstrated graphically what had been done to her.
The mother called the police who arranged for the child to be medically examined, which did show the girl had been abused.
Judge Adele Williams instructed the jury of 10 women and two men to reach a unanimous verdict.
Powell was remanded in custody and will be sentenced later this month, following a probation report.
