Hornchurch man avoids prison for taking six indecent images of children

A man has been handed a suspended 18 month prison sentence for taking six indecent images of children under 12 on his mobile phone.

Alex Bryant, 25, of  Hornchurch, was also sentenced for one count of making 95 indecent images of children at Snaresbrook Crown Court, but received no additional penalty for the charge

He had previously pleaded guilty to the charges at a hearing on May 23.

Bryant’s home and personal effects were searched by police on June 24 2016 and during the course of the search the images were found on his Samsung mobile.

Judge Alastair Hammerton oversaw proceedings and said the two counts of taking indecent images represented a gross abuse of trust.

Judge Hammerton told the court he would “take the exceptional course of suspending the sentence” and that Bryant “can be adequately punished and take the time to rehabilitate” himself.

“The court is giving you the opportunity to keep out of trouble and to take full advantage of the opportunities the probation can provide to address the problems identified in these offenses.”

The sentence has been suspended for 20 months with the requirement that Bryant undergoes 60 days rehabilitation activity and completes 100 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.

Bryant was also ordered to pay £750 for the cost of the case whilst his name will be placed on the sex offenders register for a period of 10 years in addition to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to be put in place for 12 years.

He is prevented from using the internet during that time, unless it is monitored by the police.

After the sentencing Bryant’s ex-partner, said: “When we first split up he had that phone that they were talking about.

“We’d watch things on TV about paedophiles and he said they were disgusting, he pulled the wool over all our eyes.”
