Pervert snared after sex with schoolgirl and sending explicit photos to his ex
A pervert who had sex with a schoolgirl was snared after he sent explicit pictures of her in bed to his ex-girlfriend in a bid to make her jealous.
Samim Sofati had gone to a pal’s house with the intention of having intercourse with the vulnerable 14-year-old, a court was told.
The 22-year-old had sex with the girl then took two photos of her in bed – one with her breasts exposed – and sent them to his ex-partner in a “bid to make her jealous”.
But, his former girlfriend noticed how young the teenager looked, and took the pictures to the police, Newcastle Crown Court heard.
He was arrested soon after and charged with engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl between 13 and 15 and with distributing an indecent photograph of a child.
Sofati, of Bentinck Road, Elswick, Newcastle, denied the offences but was found guilty after trial and has now been locked-up for five years.
Jailing him, Judge Amanda Rippon said: “There’s no victim statement because [the girl] wants to put this matter behind her.
“I saw her during the trial, she was embarrassed, humiliated and distressed. She now has to cope with doing her GCSEs.”
The court was told a support worker for Sofati’s ex-girlfriend contacted the police on September 30 2015 after Sofati had sent his former partner the two indecent images of the girl.
The pictures showed Sofati and the teen apparently naked in bed together.
Prosecutors said that the ex-girlfriend accused Sofati of sleeping with the girl and he replied that he could “s**g who he wanted”.
Judge Rippon added: “That portrays the complete disregard that you knew you had had sexual intercourse with a child.”
Police located the girl and she told officers what had happened.
During the trial, jurors heard Sofati had gone round the house of a mutual friend, knowing the girl, who he had never met, was there and with the intention of having sex with her.
When he arrived, the teenager was lying down on a bed as she had a headache and Sofati lay down with her and the pair had intercourse.
Judge Rippon said: “At some stage, while in bed, you took photos and you sent them to your ex-girlfriend to make her jealous – a stupid and criminal act that led to your downfall.
“You were in the flat for as long as it took to have intercourse. I have no difficulty in concluding that you went to the flat to have sexual intercourse with her.”
Sofati was also made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years.
