June 2017: Coulson avoided prison after he was handed a suspended sentence and a fine
Dad admits downloading indecent images of children
A father to a young son has admitted downloading more than 100 indecent images of children.
Andrew Coulson, 48, of St Marys Close, Bluntisham, Cambridgeshire, pleaded guilty to two charges at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court yesterday (May 9).
The hearing impaired Coulson followed proceedings through a lip speaker while his wife sat sobbing at the back of the court.
Sally Rose, prosecuting, explained to the court that police were tipped off by an individual who had been shown a photograph by Coulson on his laptop.
Officers secured a warrant to search Coulson’s home on September 8 while he was present with his wife and four-year-old son. Evidence, including a black Acer laptop, were seized and examined.
Ms Rose said: “119 photos were found of category C level and on a CDR disc two images were found at category C level and six images which were prohibited.
“He was interviewed regarding what had been found. He stated he had downloaded indecent images of children in the past but that was five years ago and he believed that he had downloaded the images via google.
“He denied being sexually attracted to children. In relation to the disc he admitted possession of this. He said they were about 10 years old and they were images in cartoon form which he said he had found funny.”
Coulson, who has no previous convictions, was granted conditional bail from the court until his sentencing on June 1.
He is prohibited from any unsupervised contact with a child under the age of 18 and must live and sleep at his Bluntisham home.
