Wrexham child rapist jailed for 18 years

A man who repeatedly sexually abused a young girl has been locked up for 18 years.

Christopher Edwards, from Wrexham Road, Rhostyllen near Wrexham, sobbed continually in the dock at Caernarfon Crown Court during the hour-long sentencing hearing.

The court heard the 61-year-old had admitted two charges of rape, three charges of indecent assault and three charges of indecency with a child when he appeared before a judge at Mold Crown Court last November.

Prosecutor Elen Owen said he had denied further charges of rape and indecent assault at that hearing but changed his plea at a subsequent hearing.

Jailing Edwards, Judge Huw Rees said: “These offences could not be more serious and they must attract a substantial period of imprisonment.

In addition to the jail term Edwards must sign the sex offenders register indefinitely.
