Perverted teacher ‘not a risk to pupils

An education authority re-assured parents that their children were never at risk from a primary school teacher who admitted making and possessing indecent pictures of youngsters.

Simon Yates (38), who taught at Dawley CE Primary school in Telford, Shropshire, for 12 years, downloaded more than 300 indecent photographs from the Internet.

Yates, from Greatford Green, Berwick Grange, Shrewsbury, was arrested as part of Operation Ore, the international effort to crack down on Internet child pornography.

Yates, who resigned his position at the school during the spring term after the allegations emerged, appeared at Telford Magistrates’ Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty. Sentencing was adjourned and he was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
