Married star of Channel 4’s Child Genius groped a 12-year-old girl after giving her a motivational speech
A pervert branded a “pushy parent” after he appeared on TV show Child Genius has been jailed for groping a 12-year-old girl after giving her a motivational speech.
Married dad-of-two Terence Lai, 54, met the young girl while giving public speeches and took her to a beauty spot before launching the sex attack.
Pointing at the scenery, the monster told her if she worked hard she would end up living in a big house but if she didn’t would become homeless.
The creep then asked to kiss the schoolgirl and called her “beautiful” before putting his tongue in her mouth.
Lai then put his hand under the girl’s shirt and groped and kissed her breasts during the sickening sex attack on July 30.
The pervert appeared on cult Channel 4 documentary series Child Genius in 2013 along with his ten-year-old son.
The show led Lai to packing in his day job at a call centre to give advice on subjects such as public speaking.
He even had his own YouTube page, giving advice on subjects including public speaking and promoting his e-book ‘Secrets of a Child Genius’.
The sex fiend, who denied a charge of sexual assault but faced a trial at Exeter Crown Court, forcing his victim to give evidence.
Lai, who appeared in court under his birth name Yuen, was convicted by a jury after claiming he kissed the girl on the lips but it was not sexually motivated, and denying fondling her breasts.
The court was told the dad had bombarded the child with emails over the next 24 hours, appearing to apologise for “breaking boundaries” and talking about forgiveness.
He also tweeted:” Every 1 made mistakes? Some made serious mistakes at some point? I made a few unintentionally. How to avoid making them again… make amends? Learn from mistake, Offer sincerely + unreserved Apology, Promise not to do the same mistake +Back to Normal?”
Sentencing Lai to three years in jail, Judge Geoffrey Mercer, QC said: “You did what you did because you were infatuated by her.
“It was very wrong. In the aftermath you were asking for forgiveness. I am sure that is the proper interpretation of what you were writing.”
Lai, of Seaton, Devon, was also slapped with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life, which restricts his future access to girls.
He was also told to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
