Sunbury paedophile jailed for 22 years

A Sunbury man, who raped and sexually assaulted six young girls over five decades, has been jailed for more than 20 years.

Michael Slark, 69, of Cavendish Road, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Friday (April 28) after a jury convicted him of 25 offences , which he denied at trial.

Slark pleaded guilty to a further 13 offences. The court was told Slark committed the crimes between July 4, 1973, and June 14, 2014.

Before passing sentence, the judge, Recorder Jeremy Carter-Manning, described the convictions as “an absolute catalogue of serious offences against children going back many years”.

Slark was jailed for 22 years, with an extended licence period of six years, for raping a child under the age of 16.

He must serve at least two-thirds of the sentence in prison and, if he breaches the terms of his eventual release, he can be recalled to serve the full 28-year term.

His other sentences will run concurrently to the rape sentence.

These are four further counts of rape of a child under 16, 15 counts of indecent assault against a child, six counts of indecency with a child, three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 and four counts of sexual activity with a child.

Slark was also sentenced for one count each of rape of a child under 13, incitement to commit indecent assault, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, making indecent photographs of a child and sexual touching of an adult.

On one count of sexual activity with a child, he was sentenced with a co-defendant, 68-year-old Peter Baker (pictured below) of Clare Road, Hounslow, west London.

Baker was jailed for five years, with an extended licence period of six years.

He must also serve at least two-thirds of the five-year sentence in prison and, if he breaches the terms of his eventual release, he can be recalled to serve the full 11-year term.

Baker was also sentenced separately for one count of sexual activity with a child, receiving a four-year jail term to run concurrently.

Slark and Baker were both added to the Sex Offenders’ Register for life. An indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order was made against Baker.
