Man jailed for breaching suspended sentence

A man who took the virginity of a 15-year-old girl has been locked up after breaching his suspended prison sentence.

Orin Harrison, aged 22, slept with the teenager and drove her to self-harm, Plymouth Crown Court heard. His conviction last year was his second for sexual activity with a child aged under 16.

Harrison, of no fixed address, was handed a 20-month prison sentence suspended for two years with sex offender treatment last March having admitted the offence in April 2015.

But he was back before the court in custody for breaching the terms of the suspended prison sentence and for committing further offences.

He admitted two counts of failing to notify police of his whereabouts as a convicted sex offender

Judge Paul Darlow jailed him for nine months in total.

Judith Constable, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said he had missed three probation appointments.

She added that he changed his phone number without telling officers and could not be reached.

The court heard he had completed some parts of his community work.

She added that the sex with the underage girl had been consensual but she had asked him to stop – and he had not done so immediately.

Man in court day after prison release to admit sex with schoolgirl

A 20-year-old-man has appeared in court the day after he was released from prison to admit having sex with a 15-year-old girl – the same offence he had been jailed for.

Orin Harrison admitted sexual activity with a girl under 16 in April 2015.

He had originally denied rape and was facing trial – but the Crown Prosecution Service accepted his plea to the lesser charge.

A judge told him he was unlikely to go to jail because he had since served a custodial sentence for a similar offence.

Harrison, of Kings Tamerton Road, Plymouth as released on bail to be sentenced with the aid of a probation report on Friday.

Judge Ian Lawrie told him: “The reality is you are unlikely to receive a sentence of immediate custody.”

Harrison last year admitted three charges of sexual activity with a child under 16 in 2013 and 2014.

He was 17 and she was 13 or 14 at the time.

He was one of three men who had sex with underage girls in a park and woods in the city. Harrison had arranged the meeting, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

Those offences were before the latest crime and he was on bail in April 2015 awaiting sentence.

Harrison received a two-year community order under probation supervision with 225 hours unpaid work and a course to tackle sex offending last August.

But he was dragged back to Plymouth Crown Court in January this year for failing to co-operate with probation and sent to a young offender institution for four months.

He missed no fewer than 11 meetings with probation officers for supervision or unpaid work, the court heard.

Judge Paul Darlow told him: “This is the end of the line. You have complied with the order in a very desultory way.” Harrison served half his time and was released this week.
