Thatcham paedophile jailed for looking at child sexual abuse images
A sex offender from Thatcham who was caught looking at “disturbing indecent images” of children online has been jailed.
Michael Ross was sentenced to three years in prison after admitting making indecent images of children and two counts of breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) at Reading Crown Court on Monday, November 14.
The 50-year-old, of Mill House, was rumbled after someone reported his criminal activities to the Thames Valley Police Paedophile On Line Investigation Team (POLIT).
He had also violated the terms of his SOPO by failing to notify police of his whereabouts after he moved from Thatcham to London.
Officers from the POLIT arrested him at his home in London on Wednesday, October 5 and he was charged on the same day.
At the crown court Ross, formerly known as Akehurst, was given two years for receiving Category A images, the most serious photographs.
“This case should serve as a warning to anyone who is engaging in this kind of criminal behaviour”
He was also given one year for receiving Category B images and eight months for receiving Category C images. These sentences will run concurrently.
The judge then gave him one year for breaching the terms of his SOPO, which he received in 2009 after being convicted of making indecent images and inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
This sentence is to run consecutively giving a total of three years’ imprisonment.
