‘Predator’ jailed for ‘heinous’ string of sexual offences against children

A sexual predator who committed a “heinous and serious” set of offences against children has been jailed for a minimum of 10 years.

Mark Phillips, of Northway Road, Littlehampton, was sentenced to 21 years behind bars on Friday (October 7) after being found guilty of 10 counts of sexual assault at Guildford Crown Court

The 60-year-old will serve a minimum of 10 years as well as being subject to a sexual harm prevention order.

But those close to some of the victim’s families have said how the case has brought “turmoil to a lot of people” involved.

One close acquaintance said: “I think he’s disgusting, he’s caused a lot of turmoil to a lot of people.

“I’m devastated by what he’s done, and the families affected must also be devastated.

“It’s very upsetting, how are the affected children supposed to get over something like this?”

Another acquaintance added: “It goes to show you can’t trust anyone, anyone who knew him has just got to pick up the pieces and get on with their lives.”

Mr Phillip’s conviction was brought about by a “complex and lengthy” investigation by Surrey Police
