Paedophile who slipped through police net and abused girls for almost 20 years is finally jailed
A paedophile who carried on his depraved crimes after slipping through the police’s net has finally been brought to justice.
Back in 1993, officers investigated rumour’s that Kevin Donlon was molesting a schoolgirl.
However the investigation came to nothing, and Donlon continued to abuse the girl, convinced he was untouchable.
Donlon’s dark past also included offences against two other young girls, dating back to the early 1980s and spanning 20 years.
Now, he has been jailed for 15 years at Manchester Crown Court, after being found guilty of ten child sex offences, including attempted rape.
A fresh investigation into Donlon began after a woman complained that he had abused her when he was 16 years old.
Police then learnt of two other complainants, including the victim he had been suspected of abusing back in 1993.
Donlon, 49, of Scott Lane, Salford , denied all the offences in a Manchester Crown Court trial, but was found guilty by the jury.
Judge Suzanne Goddard QC, sentencing, said Donlon could have spared his victims ‘a lot of pain’ if only he had pleaded guilty to what he had done.
Instead, his defence ‘involved strident accusations of conspiracy and lying’ which had caused the women great distress, the judge said.
Sentencing Donlon, Judge Goddard said his ‘depraved’ and ‘vile’ abuse had caused the three victims ‘pain, anguish and long lasting harm’.
She praised their courage in standing up to Donlon – who she described as a man who liked to get his own way and ‘would use his bulk and reputation’ to get it.
Donlon must sign the sex offenders register for life and a sexual harm prevention order restricts his future contact with children.
