Paedophile pensioner jailed by judge after abusing 10-year-old girl
A paedophile pensioner who groped one woman and sexually abused her 10-year-old daughter has been jailed for five years by a furious judge who told him: “You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.”
75-year-old pervert Brian Younghusband had become close to the woman and her child, who would regularly pop in to see him.
But the woman said that from time to time Younghusband’s behaviour made her feel uncomfortable – but matters escalated when he put his arm around her and rubbed her breast, and another time he tried to lift up her shirt.
Later, her 10-year-old daughter told her that Younghusband had touched her between the legs, saying: “It hurt, and I didn’t like it.”
The woman and her husband confronted Younghusband, who told them: “If the bairn said it’s what I did, then I did it. She’s not going to lie, but I can’t remember it.”
When interviewed by the police, the girl said she had been sitting on his lap when he first touched her, and there had been a second occasion when she had been unwell and he had been looking after her.
“I went on his lap for a cuddle, but it wasn’t a cuddle,” she said. “It was like he did before.”
When he was arrested, Younghusband – who had been living in Yeovil, but currently has no fixed address – denied the allegation, but admitted he may have ‘accidentally touched her’ while they were playing.
In court, Younghusband admitted one charge of penetrative sexual assault on a child under the age of 13, one of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13, one of sexual assault and one of common assault.
Sentencing him, Judge David Ticehurst said: “So it’s not just women you are interested in, you’re also interested in little girls? You sexually assaulted a 10-year-old. You abused her for your own perverted desires.
“Had you not behaved in the way you did, you wouldn’t be here, your family would not have been shattered and a 10-year-old girl would not be traumatised. You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.
“The consequences of what you have done will be with you for the rest of your life. You have destroyed what could have been a good life for you to look back on and the fault is entirely yours.”
For the first charge, Younghusband was sentenced to five years in prison, with the judge handing down three years for the sexual assaults, and four months for the common assault to run concurrently.
He will also have to sign the sex offenders register for the rest of his life and was ordered to pay a £120 victim surcharge.
As he left the dock towards the cell, he whispered ‘thank you’, to the judge.
