Paedophile, 71, possessed 100’s of indecent images of children – Jailed

A pensioner has been jailed for a year for making and possessing hundreds of indecent images of children.

Roger Hutchison, 71, of Willingale Way, Southend, admitted four different charges relating to at least 200 images found on his computer.

Fifty-six images were in the most serious category.

Charlotte Davison, prosecuting, told Basildon Crown Court that police were alerted to Hutchison’s online activity in September last year.

She said: “Information was recovered by Essex Police on September 12 last year suggesting that Hutchison’s IP address was used to upload indecent images onto the internet.

“A warrant was executed in September last year and he was arrested.

“Police seized a number of computers and computer equipment.

“Hutchison admitted seeing indecent images by clicking on pop-ups, but he denied searching for indecent images.

“As interrogation of the computer equipment continued, officers found that he distributed images of a young girl.

“Search terms on his computer showed that he was indeed searching for indecent images.

“He said that he had never actually touched a child but the internet made things too easy.”

The court heard that Hutchison had also used the internet to search for details about how to delete images from his computer and information about being on the sex offender’s register.

Emma Nash, mitigating, told the court that Hutchison had never been in trouble with the police before.

She said: “The offences took place at the age of 71 after a very good life in terms of his contribution to society and the standards he had lived by.

“It came about during a period of intense stress.

“He had medical problems which caused him to act in a way which was completely out of character.

“He certainly needs help and before he was charged and remanded in custody, he paid for counselling himself and took that.

“Prison has of course been an enormous shock for him – it has been every bit as harrowing as you would expect.

“He has lost friends and family members who want nothing more to do with him.”

At the court hearing, Hutchison admitted making indecent photographs of children between 2013 and 2016, possession of extreme pornography in April this year, possession of prohibited images of children in April this year, as well as showing indecent images of children between 2013 and 2016

Judge John Lodge jailed Hutchison for a year and ordered him to be on the sex offender’s register for 10 years.

He also made him subject of a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.

The pictures will be destroyed.
