Man admits possessing over 1,600 indecent images of children and extreme ‘animal porn’

A GWENDRAETH Valley man has admitted possessing over 1,600 indecent images and videos of children along with a “disgusting or obscene” image of a sex act with an animal.

Terence Christopher O’Brien pleaded guilty to four charges when he appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court.

The 63-year-old admitted three charges of possessing an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child at Pant y Pwll, Pontantwn, on March 16.

The Pant y Pwll resident also admitted possessing an extreme pornographic image which portrayed, in an explicit and realistic way, a person performing a sex act with a live or dead animal and which was grossly offensive, disgusting or otherwise of an obscene character.

Prosecutor Abdul Hussain told the court a warrant had been executed under the Protection of Children Act when the images were uncovered.

He said: “There was computer equipment in the property. The defendant made a comment outside and said ‘the things you are looking for are in there’.

“He essentially pointed out the computer which contained the images.”

The court heard the items recovered and analysed included a number of images and movies.

These included 706 category A images and over 50 category A movies, which are the most serious type; also 138 category B images, and a number of category C images too. The court heard there was a total of 1,162 images and movies found.

O’Brien was defended by solicitor Peter Rhys Jones in court.

District Judge Neil Evans said: “Because of the nature of the allegations these are matters that will be dealt with at the crown court by the crown court judge.”

O’Brien will next appear at Swansea Crown Court on October 28 for sentencing. He was released on conditional bail and must register with Llanelli Police Station until the case is dealt with.
