A chatroom groomer has been sent on a sex offenders treatment course after he travelled more than 100 miles to Exmouth to meet an underage girl who he met online.
Kevin Deller had already exchanged nude photographs with the teenager before he drove to Exmouth on New Year’s Day to meet her face to face for the first time.
They got into the back of his car and huddled under a blanket as he persuaded to touch him sexually, Exeter Crown Court was told.
Police found indecent images of children on his phone together with internet searches which showed he had been scouring the internet for images of under age girls.
Deller, aged 32, of Coltsfoot Drive, Horsham, Sussex, admitted meeting a child following grooming, inciting a child to take part in sexual activity, and three counts of making a total of 28 indecent images.
He was jailed for two years, suspended for two years and ordered to undertake a sex offenders’ treatment programme by Recorder Mr Martin Meeke, QC.
The Judge told him: “You met the victim through an internet chat line and very soon exchanged nude photographs of yourselves. That grooming was followed by you driving to Exmouth in January last year to meet that girl.
“These are serious offences. The protection of children is an essential part of this court’s work. Fortunately for you, the suggestion in the pre-sentence report is that you attend a sex offenders’ programme.
“That programme has a high reputation and is recognised as being capable of changing attitudes in those who offend as you have.”
Mr Andrew Macfarlane, prosecuting, said Deller made contact with the underage girl through an internet chat site and after exchanging nude photographs he arranged to meet her.
He travelled from Horsham on January 1, 2015 in his Ford Focus and took her for a McDonalds before they both got into the back seat under a blanket and he put her hand on his private parts.
He drove home and sent her another sexualised message which ended ‘I’ve had four hours to think about it. LOL. You’re addicted to me’.
When police seized Deller’s phone they found images and search terms which showed he was looking for images of naked schoolgirls. He had also visited 759 sites where child abuse images may have been available.
The girl made an impact statement which said words could not express the effect the encounter had on her.
Miss Emily Pitts, defending, said Deller is a hard working man who is keen to address the underlying issues which led to his offending with the probation service.
She said her client was immature for his age and emotionally scarred because his only serious adult relationship ended in tragedy when his partner lost a child and took her own life.
She said Deller never intended to have intercourse with the girl and the physical contact with the girl had stopped well short of it.
Man faces jail after grooming 13-year-old girl
A man who groomed a 15-year-old girl for sex has been warned he faces a jail sentence after he admitted meeting her in Devon.
Kevin Deller has also admitted having indecent photographs of children on his computer after he was arrested by police.
He groomed a girl from the age of 13 and incited her to take part in sexual activity when they met on New Year’s Day, 2015.
Deller, 32, of Coltsfoot Drive, Horsham, Sussex, admitted meeting a child following grooming, causing or inciting a child to take part in sexual activity, and three counts of making a total of 28 indecent images.
Judge Erik Salomonsen granted him bail but warned him: “The most likely disposal of a case of this sort is a term of imprisonment, subject to everything I hear and read about you.”
