Pervert tried to flee country after being snared by paedophile hunters Dark Justice

A sex offender tried to flee the country after he was snared by paedophile hunters attempting to meet a child, a court heard.

Dad-of-two William Orr began speaking online in a gay chat room with who he thought was a 15-year-old boy called Tom.

The 55-year-old quickly began sending the ‘teenager’ sexually explicit messages and arranged to meet him an hour later at a car park near to Newcastle College.

But, instead of finding the boy, Orr was confronted by a member of the vigilante group Dark Justice.

The court heard the paedophile hunters noted down Orr’s car registration as he fled the scene and reported him to the police.

He was caught the following day heading to Stansted Airport, in Essex, carrying £500 in cash.

Now, Orr, of Imeary Street, South Shields, has avoided jail after pleading guilty to attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

Sentencing him to six months in prison, suspended for two years, Judge Penny Moreland said: “You were using a gay chat room when you fell into conversation with someone you believed to be called Tom.

“Tom’ quickly told you he was 15 and you continued to chat with him in that knowledge, firstly in a chat room then on the KIK application.

“By 11pm, you had suggested to him the two of you meet and by 12.20am, you had travelled to the car park near Newcastle College where you found there was no such person as Tom and you were confronted by a person from the Dark Justice organisation, who took your registration number and reported you to the police.”

Patrizia Doherty, prosecuting, said Orr began talking to ‘Tom’ at 10pm on June 28 this year.

She said Orr told ‘Tom’ his name was Liam and he was a 43-year-old from South Shields.

Ms Doherty said that, within 15 minutes of talking in a gay chat room, they started to communicate using the chat application KIK.

She said: “He asked to meet up with Tom despite being reminded several times that Tom was only 15-years-old.

“The defendant then requested ‘Tom’ delete their chat history and to send him a message saying he was 16-years-old. However, Dark Justice had already taken screen shots.

“He suggested he and Tom met up in a car park near Newcastle College in Elswick.”

The court heard Orr arrived driving a grey saloon and approached Dark Justice saying ‘nice trackie bottoms’.

But, when the paedophile hunter introduced himself, Orr said ‘are you f**k’ and sped off.

David Callan, defending, said Orr had been left traumatised since the deaths of his wife and his son. The court was told the former passed away from lung cancer when they were both young and the latter while he was serving with the Army in Afghanistan in 2009.

He said: “He has been having Psycho-Sexual Therapy and the defendant will say he’s benefited very much from that.”

Orr, who has a previous conviction for outraging public decency after he performed a sex act on himself in front of a group of 15 and 16-year-old boys on Seaburn Beach in 2013, was also ordered register as a sex offender for seven years and was made subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for seven years.
