A 52-year-old man who filmed himself sexually abusing a schoolgirl has been jailed for three years and four months.
Edward Farrell repeatedly molested the child between 2004 and 2006 and on at least one occasions used a phone or small camera to record what he was doing.
Tessa Hingston, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court he used to press and rub himself against her regularly when looking after the child.
Miss Hingston said he would also get her to wear a pair of tight black trousers and bend over in front of him.
“She recalls he had a cigarette packet with some sort of camera or a phone in it and she believes he was filming her,” she said, adding no footage was ever found.
The final incident happened when he pushed her on to a sofa and got on top of her when they were both fully clothed.
“She thought if she didn’t scream for help he would rape her,” Miss Hingston said.
Although he stopped the attack she did not report what had happened to her to the police for a number of years.
But when she did speak to officers she produced notes she had made at the time recording the abuse.
In a victim personal statement the girl told how she had thought about trying to kill herself by throwing herself down the stairs and stabbing herself.
She said that she also felt physically sick when she heard his name and also found intimacy difficult as a result of what he had done.
Farrell, of Kimmeridge Close, Nythe, pleaded guilty to three sex offences against a child.
Andrew Hobson, defending, said “He does want me to say very clearly that he fully accepts everything that he did.
“Plainly it doesn’t go very far but he is very, very, sorry for what he did and deeply regrets it.
“He says he does not remember what he did. What he did to her was sickening in the extreme.”
Jailing him Judge Tim Mousley QC said: “Your prolonged sexual abuse of her is reflected in the three counts on the indictment that you pleaded guilty to and I have got to sentence you for.
“Your conduct towards her was repeated over several months. The effect of what you did upon her is plain to see for anyone who heard what she has said.
“The effect has been prolonged and it continues. She may never be able to move on completely from what you did to her and it affects her in every aspect of her life. That is what makes what you did to her particularly serious.
“I have read what you said in the pre-sentence report. I have read in the report what you say, that you had no recollection of this, I simply don’t accept that.”
He told him he must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and also imposed a restraining order banning him from contacting the victim.
