“Psychotic monster” jailed for child rape and sex assaults

A “psychotic monster” who subjected his child victim to a vicious prolonged period of rapes and sexual assaults has been jailed as more details about his twisted past came to light.

Anthony Martin, 28, was sentenced at Truro Crown Court today to seven years in prison by Deputy High Court Judge Sir John Royce for two historic counts of child rape, four counts of indecency with a child and four indecent assaults on the younger male.

The offences against the victim took place between June 1999 and September 2002 in Guildford, Surrey. Last month a jury took less than an hour to convict Martin.

During the sentencing hearing today, the court heard how Martin also received a caution for the sexual assault of a five-year-old girl, during which he encouraged her to touch his genitals, shortly after his reign of terror over the victim in this case

He also served an eight-month custodial sentence for robbery in 2006 before allegedly “self-rehabilitating” as an adult and starting a family in Redruth.

Sir Royce said: “Between June 1999 and September 2002 you subjected Robert Bown to a series of sexual assaults, some more serious than others.

“The first took place in swimming pool changing room when you raped him and then you backed up what you had done by threatening to kill his mother if he told anybody.

“You continued to abuse Mr Bown sexually and on several occasions went down to the room he was staying in and took off his pyjamas and [performed a sex act].

“On one occasions you engaged in similar activity before raping him once again.”

Sir Royce also told of how Martin would regularly touch the victim’s penis while masturbating.

He added: “The victim then moved to Cornwall and saw you (Martin) in Redruth which brought back what he had been subjected to. The effect of what you had done is profound.

“You must had known what you were doing was entirely wrong.”
