Redruth paedophile spared jail for making indecent images of children
A paedophile has dodged jail time despite being found guilty of several counts of making indecent images of children
Simon Hand, 31, of Wesley Street, Redruth, was sentenced at Truro Crown Court today after previously being found guilty by a jury of seven counts of making the images.
Two of the images were of a Category A nature – the most serious – two Category B and the remainder Category C.
All of the offences took place in Looe between October 2009 and May 2015.
The court heard how Hand was disappointed with the decision of the jury and still not willing to accept his guilt.
Richard Smith, QC, defending Hand, said he had self-imposed an internet ban since his arrest and already signed a sexual harm prevention order.
Sir John Royce, sitting as a deputy High Court judge, conceded that the images were relatively small in number and Hand was previously a man of good character.
Sir Royce sentenced Hand to nine months imprisonment suspended for 12 months and told him to pay costs of £750.
He was also told he must undergo a 20-day rehabilitation requirement and must not use a computer incapable of recording internet history or attempt to delete his internet history.
A computer tower and two iPhones associated with the case will also be seized and destroyed.
