Sex offender jailed for rape after taking pictures of young girl

Sex offender Martin McCracken has been jailed for nine years after committing “disgusting” offences against a young girl.

He took advantage of her after telling her he had a magic lamp to show her, a court heard

McCracken, 42, of Crowland Avenue, Scunthorpe, denied orally raping a girl under 13 and assaulting her by penetration but he was convicted by a jury at Grimsby Crown Court after a trial.

Judge Mark Bury told the court McCracken was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he committed the offences.

He took more drugs and drank more alcohol and persuaded the girl to go with him, saying he had a magic lamp, the judge told the court.

The sexual offences took place in a room and McCracken also took pictures of her, said Judge Bury.

“It’s a serious matter,” he said. “These were disgusting offences you committed. This was opportunist and while you were in drink. You have shown no remorse whatsoever.”

Edward Bindloss, mitigating after the verdicts, said McCracken acted impulsively and there had been no grooming or attempts to gain the girl’s trust.

McCracken, born and brought up in Scunthorpe, had three children and had been working as a labourer, said Mr Bindloss.

He had been a persistent low-level criminal and drug taker and had been in custody for 158 days, added Mr Bindloss.

McCracken was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
