Hereford man sentenced for possessing indecent images of children
A 44-YEAR-old man who was caught with 578 indecent images of children on his tablet computer has been given a community order.
Darren Plane of Welford Green in Hereford pleaded guilty to five counts of possessing indecent images of a child, which included 168 still images and 50 moving images of category A, 269 still images and 21 moving images of category B and 70 still images of category C.
Hereford Crown Court heard that the police had become aware the defendant had been sent an indecent image on social media on June 18 last year.
Officers went to Plane’s home address on December 16 and found a tablet which contained the indecent images, which included children as young as 12-months-old.
Morgan Jones, defending, said Plane had a previous good character and had held a good job, but has since been dismissed due to the offences.
He said his mother is dependent on him.
Judge Daniel Pearce-Higgins said: “The total number of images is not as great as is often the case, although here the category A is a large proportion than is usually the case.”
He said that with the support of his family and friends, rehabilitation appears to be a reasonable prospect.
Plane was given a three year community order with the requirement to participate in a sex offenders group programme.
He was also given a sexual harm prevention order for five years.
