Smirking pervert sent explicit pictures of himself to victims as young as 12
A smirking pervert who sent sick explicit pictures of himself to girls as young as 12 has been jailed .
Joshua Manton preyed on four youngsters aged 12 and 13 from across the country using social media.
The 19-year-old encouraged the children to exchange the indecent images , the Chronicle Live reported .
A court was told Manton, from Burnley, knew the girls were underage but had still tried to meet up with one.
His crimes only came to light when the mum of one of his victims spotted the incriminating photographs on their phone.
Manton had lived in Newcastle while studying psychology and criminology at Northumbria University.
He was a guitarist for Cult Lust, who described themselves as a “scuzz-rock mosh pit punk” band.
His former bandmates have rushed to distance themselves from him.
The band are going to change their name and re-record the material Manton had a hand in creating.
Manton was traced back to his home address on Westwood Road, Burnley, in January 2015.
Police seized his mobile phone before trawling through thousands of messages and finding pictures and videos of his genitals.
Sam says he only met Manton earlier this year at a gig.
He added: “He has always been touchy people having access to his phone and his computer. He would never let us touch anything to do with his social media, and that makes sense now.”
Defending, Michaela Williams told the court her client was immature and understood the consequences of his actions.
At Northampton Crown Court Manton was sentenced to two years and four months in a young offenders’ institution, but will only spend half of that behind bars before being released on licence.
The judge also ordered him to sign the sex offenders’ register for at least 10 years.
