Paedophile babysitter jailed for abusing 9-yr-old girl blamed victim for ‘FLIRTING’ with him
A babysitter jailed for molesting a nine-year-old girl said his victim had been FLIRTING with him.
Jack Langdon, 19, tricked the child’s family into letting him look after his young victim before molesting her at her home .
The youngster told her mum she had been watching TV on the sofa when Langdon put his hand through a hole in her leggings and touched her.
She also said the teenager told her he had “naughty images” on his mobile phone.
Langdon – who had also been posing as a girl to get young women to send indecent images to him – admitted one count of assaulting the little girl in December 2015.
But instead of accepting responsibility, the predator tried to shift the blame onto his victim – telling a probation officer she had been acting “all flirty” with him.
Vile Langdon also said the nine-year-old had “a sexual need that needed to be met”.
Langdon was jailed for four years after he admitted one count of sexual assault, three of distributing indecent images and nine of possessing indecent images.
Sentencing Langdon at Taunton Crown Court on Thursday, Judge David Ticehurst said: “The act was committed when you had gained the trust of the family.
“She was someone you were trusted to look after and you abused that trust.
“You also sought out images of abuse and portrayed yourself as a young girl online and encouraged others to send you images of themselves.
“No matter what problems you have, you knew to hide your identity in order to try and contact other young girls.”
He added: “I have no doubt you knew perfectly well what you were doing.
“If you continue to offend in this manner, if you do not take the help offered to you in prison and you offend again, you run the risk of life imprisonment.”
A court heard Langdon carried out the abuse while serving a suspended sentence for five counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child under 16.
He was handed a community order but just eight weeks later, Langdon abused the nine-year-old girl.
When he was arrested, police discovered five videos of child sexual abuse on his phone which were classed as category A – the most serious.
They also found one category A image, one category B movie and two category B images and three category C images.
Officers discovered he had distributed one of the photos to another person and had also been masquerading online as a young woman called Beth Bosley.
As ‘Beth’, he had contacted young women and encouraged them to share indecent images of themselves with him.
His internet searches also revealed he had been attempting to view illegal images.
Defending, Harry Ahuja said his client had a background of “difficulties and bullying” and had the emotional age of a ten-year-old.
He said: “He is an insecure, anxious individual. He has learning difficulties and age and emotional vulnerabilities.
“He is a young person who needs some assistance in relation to relationships.”
He added his client believed he was a “good person” as he did not drink, fight or take drugs and he had to explain to him exactly how bad his behaviour had been.
Langdon was jailed for 18 months for the sexual assault and 12 months for possession of category A movies, to run concurrently.
He was also given 12 months for the category A images, six months for the category B movies, four months for the category B images and three months for the category C image.
In addition, Judge Ticehurst activated Langdon’s suspended sentence, jailing him for nine months for his previous offences, to run concurrently with the assault sentence.
The offender was also handed nine months for distribution of indecent images, to run consecutively, making a total of four years in prison.
Teen pleads guilty to sexually assaulting child and possessing and distributing indecent images
AN 18-year-old has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a nine-year-old child, and possessing and distributing indecent images of children.
Jack Langdon, from Watchet but now in the care of HMP, entered the pleas at Taunton Crown Court, via video link from Exeter Prison on Friday, July 29.
Langdon pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault of a nine-year-old child between December 1, 2015 and December 30, 2015, in Minehead.
He also pleaded guilty to three counts of distribution of indecent images of children, and nine further counts of possession of an indecent photograph.
Judge David Ticehurst said: “I think he may be dangerous offender, given that it happened within months, if not weeks of a previous offence.”
Mr Langdon was given a community order for a previous offence of sexual assault.
Judge Ticehurst added: “Putting it bluntly, he has had his chance and he has blown it.
“The images show an unhealthy interest in such matters. These offences occurred early on into his community order.
“He represents a significant risk to cause substantial harm.”
The case has been adjourned for further reports from probation services.
Langdon will appear in court again on August 25.
Meanwhile, he has been remanded in custody.
