Jailed: York paedophile caught kissing girl, 12, in bed
A MAN caught kissing a 12-year-old girl in her bed has been jailed for three years and four months.
John Jones, 26, from Tockwith, had pleaded guilty to nine counts of indecent acts with a minor.
York Crown Court heard Jones groomed the girl, who cannot be named, and kissed and touched her sexually over about two months last year.
David Brooke, prosecuting, told the court the girl’s father found Jones wearing only underwear in his daughter’s bed in the early hours of the morning last August. Jones quickly dressed and fled, but was later arrested and made no comment in police interview.
Mr Brooke said a police investigation found Jones and the girl had shared a number of conversations by text message and social media, in which he told her he loved her.
They had also discussed marriage and having children, and being together once the girl was older, with the girl mentioning her age on a number of occasions.
A victim impact statement revealed the long term psychological damage caused by Jones’ actions. She said: “The last year has destroyed me. I will always hate myself and blame myself and it will affect me in the future. I can never trust anyone again. Life will never be the same. I just want to forget about it but things will always be in the back of my mind.”
Judge Davies told Jones: “The impact on this young girl, not even in her teens, who has been taken advantage of by you, the nature of the conversations you were having with her were wholly inappropriate and as she embarks upon her adult life, she has this legacy to deal with.”
Jones was also given a five-year sexual harm prevention order. He will be on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
