Pervert groomed girl, 14, on Facebook for sex
A MAN had sex with a 14-year-old girl just months after being let out of prison for a similar offence.
Joseph Laybourne befriended his latest victim on Facebook just after he came out of jail.
Newcastle Crown Court heard the 21-year-old had been locked up for 18 months in March last year for having sex with a 12-year-old girl.
Laybourne, of St Peter’s View, Monkwearmouth, was released on licence at the start of December and had contacted his new victim on-line by January.
Prosecutor Penny Moreland told the court: “When he came out of prison he added her on Facebook as a friend.
“The girl said at first he was just a normal friend to talk to on Facebook.
“They became really good friends. The girl said she told him everything.
“She said he was sensitive to her feelings. She said he was like an ‘agony aunt’.”
On May 10, Laybourne, who was still bound by strict licence provisions, had sex with the youngster, who told police she had been “drunk”, after he took her to a pal’s house.
Bob Spragg, defending, said Laybourne had been bullied during his first prison sentence, which made his personal problems even worse after his release.
Judge David Wood jailed Laybourne, who admitted having sexual activity with a child, for three-and-a-half years.
Laybourne must register as a sex offender for life and has been banned from working with children for life.
Teen in jail for sex with girl, 12
A teen has been jailed for having sex with a schoolgirl – who was only 12.
The girl and a young friend were in The Galleries, Washington, when they persuaded a shopper to buy them alcohol.
Back home, they stashed the booze in a shed, Newcastle Crown Court heard.
They started downing the drink when the girl’s mother went out.
But Joseph Laybourne, 19, joined them on his way back from a party of his own, the court was told.
And after going up to her bedroom, he had consensual sex with the 12- year-old.
Laybourne, of Albany, Washington, pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child last May.
Jailing him for 18 months and putting him on the sex offenders register for 10 years, Judge David Hodson said custody was the only option
