Chryston dad faces jail after being caught with child abuse images stash

Middle aged paedophile Christopher Loppas faces a lengthy jail term after being snared downloading child sexual abuse images

The father-of-one pled guilty at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week to taking or permitting to be taken or making indecent photographs of children at his home over a 12-month period beginning in September 2014.

Prosecutor Agnes Meek told the court that 51-year-old Loppas was in possession of hundreds of images of children – some as young as four – being abused.

Ms Meek said: “Police received information from the National Child Abuse Computer unit and acting upon intelligence provided went to Loppas’ home on September 3, 2015.

“They carried out a systematic search of his home and seized a computer and tower unit. He was taken in for questioning where he made full and frank admissions of downloading indecent images.”

The court heard that 481 images were found, some of the worst category. Most were of females aged between four and six years of age being sexually abused by adult males.

Disgraced Loppas, of Pleaknowe Crescent, Chryston, sat with his head bowed in the dock as the fiscal depute read out the facts to the sheriff.

Sheriff Morag Galbraith deferred sentence until next month, calling for a full range of background reports including a risk assessment as to the danger Loppas poses to children. He was placed on the sex offenders’ register and released on bail.
