Pensioner with more than 7,900 indecent images of children is jailed
A pensioner who admitted owning more than 7,900 indecent images and videos of children has been jailed.
Plans for a new life in Kenya were dashed when John Raymond Lawman, 69, was sent to prison for eight months by a judge at Truro Crown Court.
At a previous hearing Lawman admitted 12 offences of possessing indecent images of children.
The court heard the photographs and videos covered all three categories, from the least serious to the most extreme. The offences dated between January 2014 and September 2015.
The court was told Lawman was divorced, recently married a Kenyan woman and had moved to the African country. He gave a UK address of a house in Newtown, St Martin, on the Lizard.
He was required by the court to surrender his passport to prevent him leaving the country before he was sentenced.
Lawman was jailed for eight months and given a sexual harm prevention order. He was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register and forfeited his computer, which will be destroyed.
