Pervert jailed for 14 counts of sexual abuse against girls in Newent
A 68-year-old Forest of Dean man who repeatedly sexually abused two girls from the ages of eight over a seven-year period has been jailed.
Cornelius Ingmire, of Goode Court, Lydney, had pleaded guilty to 14 counts abuse of both girls between October 2007 and May 2014.
He was sent to prison for 12 years by His Honour Judge Michael Cullum at Gloucester Crown Court this week.
The court heard how Ingmire “groomed both children into accepting the behaviour as normal” and how he moved from one child to the other.
Said the judge: “Since 2007 you kept a significant secret and you stole the innocence from your two victims.
“They will be affected by what you repeatedly did to them for the rest of their lives.
Prosecuting barrister Ian Fenney said earlier: “The first victim told someone on Christmas Eve what had been going on but swore them to secrecy.
“They kept the secret for some three years but then the second victim started to talk about Childline.
“She told her older sister what had been happening to her and finally the police were told and the defendant was arrested in May of 2015.
“This was a prolonged course of inappropriate sexual behaviour with young children and the degree of psychological has been significant, to such an extent that they have said it was too painful for them to relive the events and make a victim impact statement.
“But the impact on them has been profound.”
Judge Cullum made a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for an indefinite period and placed Ingmire on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
