Cardigan man admits possessing indecent child images
A CARDIGAN man has admitted having 267 indecent images of children on his computer.
Daryl Grant, aged 45, formerly of Penparc, pleaded guilty to three charges of possession indecent images of children when he appeared before Aberystwyth magistrates on Wednesday.
The court heard that 22 of the images were described as the most serious Category A, with 56 in Category B and the remainder in Category C.
Ellie Morgan, prosecuting, told the bench that Grant’s computer was seized and examined after he was arrested on August 22 as part of a police investigation.
She added: “High tech crime officers discovered a total of 267 indecent images of children.”
Katy Hanson, defending, said her client was ‘extremely remorseful’ and had no previous convictions or cautions.
She added that the images were viewed some time ago and had been accessed by accident while Grant was downloading something else.
Miss Hanson said: “It was not the case that initially he was looking for them.”
Magistrates ordered a pre sentence report and sent the case to be dealt with by the crown court.
The presiding magistrate said: “These are three serious offences that this court does not have the power to deal with.”
He added that Grant would be required to register as a sex offender following conviction.
Grant will next appear at Swansea Crown Court on December 18.
