A Saltcoats man who groomed two 13-year-old boys for sex on Facebook and offered drink and drugs has been jailed for two years.
Brian Murphy, 46, went on a camping trip with a group of youngsters at Glenhill Dam outside the town and gave one of his victims £20.
The boy told Kilmarnock Sheriff Court: “I was kind of confused as I didn’t know why he gave me it.”
Murphy bought cider at a shop then followed the youngster into a tent, lay beside him and said: “Remember I gave you £20? Now can you do a favour for me?”
The boy went home and police were alerted when his mother found him crying in his bedroom.
The other victim described being given money by Murphy, who contacted him on Facebook and told him not to tell anyone.
Murphy, of Catacol Avenue, Saltcoats, also had a stash of fake ecstasy tablets he thought were genuine that he plotted to give the boys
A jury found Murphy guilty of two charges of sexually aggravated threatening or abusive behaviour, embracing a victim and offering him drink and drugs, and three drugs offences between December 2012 and April 2013.
Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane also placed him on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
