Scout master paedophile jailed for five years
A former scout master who molested four young boys has been jailed for five years.
62-year-old Ian Beeby preyed on youngsters in northern England during the mid-1980s.
He told one unassuming victim of his criminal behaviour: “It is the sort of thing that scouts do.”
Beeby stood before a court in Carlisle last year and admitted two indecent assaults on one boy. However, publicity generated by the case prompted other abuse victims to come forward.
As a result, Beeby appeared before a judge at Carlisle Crown Court last month. On that occasion he entered guilty pleas to five more indecent assaults and six counts of indecency.
Beeby also confessed to possessing hundreds of indecent images of young boys. This followed the seizure of computer equipment in 2014.
He was sentenced for all these crimes at the crown court this afternoon when a statement provided by one of the boys was read:
Former scout leader admits 11 additional sexual crimes against young boys
A former scout leader has admitted 11 additional sexual crimes against young boys.
Ian Beeby, 62, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court in November when he pleaded guilty to two charges of indecently assaulting an eight-year-old boy in north Cumbria during the mid-1980s.
During that hearing it was said Beeby had confessed to police that he had molested other victims.
And at the crown court yesterday, he admitted 11 more offences – six counts of indecency with three other boys aged under 14 and five indecent assaults.
The court heard he had twice previously received prison sentences – in 1988 and 1993 – for “similar matters”.
Judge Peter Hughes QC adjourned the case and asked for a background report to be prepared.
Beeby, of Edditch Grove, Bolton, will be sentenced on March 18. He was remanded on unconditional bail.
Scout leader from Cumbria admits indecent assaults against young boy
A FORMER Scout leader has admitted two indecent assaults on a young boy.
Ian Beeby, 62, entered guilty pleas to two offences when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today (THURS).
Both of his indecent assaults on the boy were committed in North Cumbria during the mid-1980s.
One is said to have occurred during a camping trip in the Lake District. The other is said to have taken place at the defendant’s home in North Cumbria.
During a 10-minute hearing was held at the crown court, Beeby spoke only to confirm his name and enter guilty pleas.
No information about the precise nature of the offences was given in court.
But during a previous court appearance, magistrates in Carlisle were told that Beeby was a volunteer scout leader in the county when both incidents occurred.
Judge Forrester adjourned today’s case and Beeby, now of Edditch Grove, Bolton, will be sentenced in due course.
Having confessed to the two crimes, Beeby is now subject to the sex offender notification requirements.
As a result he must keep police informed about where he is living at all times.
