Dartford paedophile jailed again for sexually assaulting girl under 13 years old
A Dartford paedophile, who is already behind bars, has been jailed again for sexually assaulting a girl.
Ashley Challis, 22, of The Brent, has been serving a 10-and-a-half year prison sentence for two counts of rape on a boy, aged nine to 10 years old, and engaging in sexual activity with him between 2008 and 2011.
He was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on September 3 last year.
Challis has been handed an additional 14 months in jail for three counts of sexual assault on a girl under the age of 13.
He appeared at Maidstone Crown Court by video link at Parkhurst Prison, Isle of Wight, on September 26.
Teen who repeatedly raped nine-year-old boy jailed
The father of the nine-year-old boy who was repeatedly raped by Ashley Challis has called for Kent County Council to investigate why it placed him in foster care so close to where the victim lived.
The parent, who cannot be named for legal reasons, revealed his son was disabled and that both his children had been “set back many years in terms of their health, welfare and development”.
Challis from Glen View, Gravesend, had previously admitted two charges of rape and one charge of inciting a boy under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity in New Ash Green.
At Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday the 21-year-old was jailed for 10 years and six months.
Now the dad has spoken of the impact the actions of depraved Challis had on his family. He wrote: “This matter has taken over two and a half years to get to the point of sentencing.
“The damage that has occurred to both of my children is not something that can ever be forgotten or easily recovered from.”
Both of my children have endured suffering beyond belief and they have been set back many years in terms of their health, welfare and development as a result.
“Because of Challis’s cowardly eleventh hour guilty plea, intended to minimise his sentence; the court never got to hear the full facts of the case.
“He then dragged this out further by not co-operating with psychological assessments and even had the temerity to write to my son directly in an effort to help his case further.
“I am frankly appalled, shocked and deeply disappointed that the Local Authority do not consider this matter serious enough to warrant a serious case review.
“Challis had already committed a similar offence before being placed in foster care by an outsourced fostering agency; nearby to where he first offended and within easy reach of my children.
“It is my view that this took place without adequate care-planning, risk assessment and reporting procedures.
“He was subsequently allowed the freedom to groom both my children and to repeatedly rape my son in a serious of calculated attacks over a long period.
“Challis is a predatory paedophile. He committed the crimes whilst technically a child himself, but he carefully selected my vulnerable and disabled son as his victim, at a time when he was at his most vulnerable.
“At the time of his arrest, Challis was in a relationship and living with a young woman with a child of her own.
“He will remain a danger to children upon release.
“I publicly demand that the processes around Challis being placed in foster care and the procedures around on-going risk assessment and reporting matters of concern whilst in placement are made subject to a serious case review by Kent County Council.”
