Child rapist’s prison term extended as new victim comes forward

A CHILD rapist serving 15 years for his horrific crimes has seen his prison term extended after another victim came forward.

Alan Marsden, 55, of north Hull, was jailed in July 2011 for raping and sexually assaulting a child on numerous occasions.

Now, he has been given a further four years after the new victim learned of Marsden’s jail sentence and spoke to police.
A statement was read out in court by Mr Waley on behalf of the victim.

Mr Waley said: “These offences have had a tremendous impact on his life, they have in fact destroyed his life.

“The defendant abused him mentally physically and sexually.

“He could not tell anyone what happened because he was too scared.

“Now, he doesn’t see a future for himself. He is having counselling and wants some measure of justice for what this man did to him.

“He constantly has suicidal thoughts.”

Marsden pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted rape and two counts of indecent assault.

Nigel Clive, defending, said Marsden, who was due to be released from prison in January 2019, was expecting a further substantial sentence.

Mr Clive said: “He is now 55 and has reflected on his behaviour.

“He is thoroughly disgusted and ashamed of his actions.

“He has not only ruined his own life, but those of his victims.

“He is very sorry for what he has done and he has done the only thing he can do now which is to say sorry and plead guilty.”

The court heard how Marsden had previously been sentenced to nine months in prison in 1998 for sexually abusing a third child.

Sentencing Marsden to a further four years in prison yesterday, Judge Mark Bury told him he had wrecked his victims’ lives.

The judge said: “You abused this child in the most vile way possible.

“You also threatened him, called him names and then committed these atrocious acts.

“These offences are so serious that you must receive a consecutive sentence to the one you are already serving.

Jailed for child rape

A MAN has been jailed for indecently assaulting four children.

Ian Marsden, 47, was jailed for 11 years for historic rape and sex offences after he targeted four children aged between seven and nine.

Marsden had denied five charges, but was found guilty by a jury after a four-day trial at Hull Crown Court.

Detective Sergeant Adrian Adamson said: “Ian Marsden has begun his sentence for abusing these young children and they can now begin to rebuild their lives knowing he is where he deserves to be.

“Marsden has shown absolutely no remorse throughout the investigation and has put those victims through a trial.

“I am very pleased the jury saw through his lies and found him guilty.

“I would like to thank the victims for their bravery in coming forward.”

The police are urging other victims to come forward. Mr Adamson said: “I would urge any further victims of Ian Marsden or any other offenders to come forward and we will help them.

“I stress that we will continue to work hard to pursue and prosecute child sex offenders.”

Judge David Tremberg sentenced Marsden, of Homethorpe, Orchard Park, to 11 years.

He must also sign the sex offenders register for life.
