‘Sadistic’ paedophile wrote a memoir on a prison writing course – revealing further crimes

A “committed and sadistic paedophile” serving a life sentence for rape revealed he had committed further offences by writing a manuscript called Monsters Do Exist.

Cardiff Crown Court heard Aaron Hughes attended a writing class in prison and penned the document described by prosecutors as a cross between memoirs and “extreme sexual fantasy”.

In his sentencing comments, Judge Daniel Williams told the defendant: “You have irrepressible predatory urges to sexually abuse the terribly vulnerable.”

Hughes, 35, pleaded guilty to five counts relating to the period between 2004 and 2008 – raping a child, engaging in sexual activity with a child, and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

Caroline Rees, prosecuting, said the charges related to three victims who were all teenagers at the time.

She said the offending came to light when the defendant wrote the manuscript entitled Monsters Do Exist, which she described as “extremely distressing”.

Ms Rees said: “This was the defendant’s writing about serious sexual offending in explicit and unimaginably horrific detail.”

She told the court the document was written by “a committed and sadistic paedophile”.

The three victims were interviewed in June 2015 after the manuscript was handed to police.

Prosecutors said the first victim described himself as an “unhappy child” and the judge noted he was vulnerable to the defendant, who was nearly a decade older than him at the time.

The court heard Hughes gave the boy alcohol, cigarettes and cannabis and asked him to marry him.

Ms Rees said: “He continued to groom him sexually.”

The second victim said the defendant promised him gifts and told him he loved him before touching him sexually.

Ms Rees said: “He did not understand what was going on.”

The third victim told police he had run away from home and thought the defendant “seemed nice” but later realised how he was manipulated.

Prosecutors said Hughes told the boy he had worked for the police as a karate instructor – lies intended to build his trust.

The court heard the defendant and his then-boyfriend Niall Kemble were playing cards and gave the boy alcohol and cannabis.

When he lost they told him he would have to carry out “a forfeit” and Hughes raped him while Kemble watched.

Kemble, 26, from Llanedeyrn, was jailed for six months in November 2016 for his involvement in the offence.

Ms Rees said the victim felt “dirty” and “in shock”.

Asked by police how the incident made him feel he replied: “Angry. I didn’t realise it had but it has affected me all this time.

“I tried to block it out but that does not help.”

He added: “It’s disgusting he can just take what he wants and does not have to live with the consequences.”

Hughes was arrested in June 2015 and initially denied the allegations, saying his victims were “lying” based on their own “fantasies”.

He refused to attend court when his case was listed last November and then changed his pleas five days before his trial was due to start.

Telling the court of his previous convictions, Ms Rees said: “There is a significant and relevant history.”

Hughes was sentenced in February 2000 for three counts of raping a child to five years in a young offender institution.

The court heard three defendants were involved and raped the child 90 times while he was tied up.

Ms Rees said he then repeatedly breached a Sexual Offending Prevention Order.

He was sentenced in May 2014 for two counts of raping a three-year-old child and making indecent images of the incident.

The prosecutor said: “The child was heavily sedated on prescription medication.”

Hughes was jailed for life with a minimum term of 12 years.

Ms Rees said: “This is serious repeat offending by a committed paedophile.”

Susan Ferrier, defending, said her client was scared to leave prison in case the offending happened again.

She said: “He recognises he is sexually aroused by children and he recognises his behaviour is predatory.

“He accepts that the court is looking at a shocking picture.”

The defendant appeared via video link from HM Parc Prison in Bridgend.

Judge Williams said: “The harm done to each of these three young men has been immeasurable.”

He added: “The court commends their courage in coming forward.”

The judge deemed the defendant to present a significant risk of serious harm to the public, a high risk of further sexual offending, and a very high risk of causing serious harm to children.

A report by the Probation Service noted he had been watching television programmes involving children while in prison.

Judge Williams told the defendant: “Your guilty pleas do not reveal a shred of remorse.”

He passed a new sentence of life imprisonment with a minimum term of 11 years.

Nicola Rees, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “There were very serious allegations that came to light while Hughes was in prison.

“Consequently the police conducted a full investigation, resulting in the charges being authorised.”

She added: “Over a period of time Hughes gained the trust of these impressionable teenagers so that he could sexually assault them.

“In cases such as this the passage of time does not always lessen the impact of the offending on the victims, who have shown great courage.”

Child rapist to be sentenced for attacks on boys

A serial child rapist is to find out how long he will spend in prison for carrying out another sickening sex attack.

Depraved Aaron Hughes, 35, had been jailed in 2014 for drugging and raping a sleeping three-year-old.

While in prison Hughes was charged with 10 sexual offences against three teenage boys.

At a previous hearing at Newport Crown Court, Hughes pleaded guilty to one charge of rape he carried out in 2008.

He also admitted three charges of sexual activity against two 13-year-old boys and one charge of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, which were all committed in 2004.

Prosecutors would not seek a trial on five further counts of sexual activity with a child.

In 2014, Cardiff Crown Court heard Hughes had been given the child by babysitter Claire Semmens, who herself was jailed for 16 years after admitting two charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and possessing indecent images.

He was caught when police did a routine check on his computer because they believed he had breached a court order by downloading indecent images of children.

Officers found Hughes had filmed himself raping a child twice at the home of Semmens while she was babysitting children.

Hughes, previously of Roath, Cardiff, admitted two charges of rape, possessing indecent images and breaching the terms of his sex offenders prevention order.

He was jailed for life and told he would not be considered for parole until he served 12 years in prison.

Hughes will be sentenced at Newport Crown Court by Judge Daniel Williams.

A paedophile who was locked up for raping a toddler has admitted abusing teenagers

A convicted paedophile currently serving a life sentence after raping a toddler has admitted further serious sexual offences.

Aaron Hughes was jailed in 2014 for drugging and raping a sleeping three-year-old in attacks he filmed before selling on the footage.

The 35-year-old, who is currently in HM Parc Prison in Bridgend, pleaded guilty at Newport Crown Court to multiple child sex offences.

Judge Daniel Williams described the offending as “serious”.

Hughes entered guilty pleas to two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, two counts of sexual activity with a child, and one count of rape.

The charges relate to the period between 2004 and 2008 and involve three teenage boys. Five other counts of sexual activity with a child will lie on file.

Prosecutor Caroline Rees said the pleas were acceptable and the Crown Prosecution Service would not seek a trial.

The matter was originally listed for trial and the victims were briefed to attend court to give evidence but did not have to attend after the defendant changed his pleas.

Prosecutors said there would not be any victim impact statements.

Ms Rees told the court: “There is a significant and relevant antecedent history.”

She added: “The defendant is serving a life sentence in respect of similar offences.”

Hughes appeared via video link from jail for the plea hearing.

Susan Ferrier, defending, said her client had not been receiving medication for his anxiety and depression “for some time” and was “anxious” about leaving prison.

She told the court the offences to which he entered pleas pre-date the offences for which he is serving his current sentence.

Ms Ferrier said a pre-sentence report was compiled in 2014 but she asked for a fresh report.

Judge Williams adjourned the case until April 27 so the Probation Service can compile an up-to-date report.

The judge told the defendant: “You have pleaded guilty to serious offences.

“I cannot sentence you without the assistance of the Probation Service who will prepare a pre-sentence report.”

In 2014 Cardiff Crown Court heard how Hughes had been given a child by babysitter Claire Semmens, who was herself jailed for 16 years after admitting two charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and possessing indecent images.

He was caught when police did a routine check on his computer because they believed he had breached a court order by downloading indecent images of children.

Officers found Hughes had filmed himself raping a child twice and Hughes, previously of Roath, Cardiff, admitted two charges of rape, possessing indecent images and breaching the terms of his sex offenders prevention order.

He was jailed for life and told he would not be considered for parole until he had served 12 years in prison.

Babysitter jailed for 16 years for giving a 3-year-old boy to a known paedophile who drugged and raped him

A babysitter has been jailed for 16 years for giving a three-year-old boy to a known paedophile who drugged and raped him as he slept.

Claire Semmens, 28, handed the little boy to depraved Aaron Hughes, who was jailed for life for the sex attacks on the sedated toddler.

Hughes, 32, filmed the rapes on his mobile phone so he could watch them over and over again on his computer.

He was caught when police did a routine check on his computer because they believed he had breached a court order by downloading child pornography.

The court heard horrified officers found Hughes had filmed himself raping a child twice at the home of Semmens while she was babysitting children.

Both attacks were on the same three-year-old and Hughes claimed they happened on the same night.

But police checked the videos and spotted the little boy was wearing different pyjamas and that Hughes had a different ring on his finger.

Prosecutor Laurence Jones said: “The rapes were carried out at separate times – but both were on the same boy and they happened in Semmens’ bedroom.

“Semmens not only supplied the boy but provided a room which enabled Hughes to commit the act and film it in a relatively safe haven.

“By her own admission Semmens knew Hughes was a child sex offender who was banned from having any contact with children.

“But she was trying to satisfy Hughes’s perversions for young male children.”

The court heard Semmens was sexually attracted to Hughes’s gay lover and the three had become close friends.

Hughes had a previous conviction for raping a six-year-old boy and Semmens hoped that by providing children to Hughes it would clear the way for her to have a relationship with his lover.

Mr Jones said: “Aaron Hughes had to be kept happy so she would supply him with a young boy.

“She had the opportunity to do this because she was a babysitter, regularly looking after boys aged between three and six.”

The court heard Hughes and his lover moved into a flat in Roath, Cardiff, next door to where Semmens provided a regular babysitting service.

But it wasn’t until police raided Hughes’s home that they discovered he was preying on one of the little boys staying next door – with Semmens’ consent.

Mr Jones said: “When Hughes was interviewed by police he admitted sedating the three-year-old boy before raping him.

“In the video clip you can see the little boys’ eyes are closed.

“Hughes told police the rapes happened on the same night but the boy is wearing a different set of pyjamas and Hughes is wearing different jewellery.

“Claire Semmens had also developed a taste for child pornography herself and images were found on her laptop computer.”

The court heard police also found computer images of the bare bottoms of two other boys babysat by Semmens.

Hughes and Semmens disappeared when they realised the images found on their computers would send them to jail.

The pair pawned their jewellery and took a train to Gatwick Airport fleeing in such a hurry Semmens’ pet hamsters were left to die of starvation.

When they were arrested Hughes told police he suffered from a multiple personality disorder and he was not responsible for raping the little boy.

Semmens and Hughes sat stony-faced in the dock at Cardiff Crown Court with a prison officer sitting between them.

Semmens, of Roath, Cardiff, admitted two charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and possessing indecent images.

She was jailed for 16 years and barred from ever working with children again and must sign on the sex offenders register for life.

Hughes, of Roath, admitted two charges of rape, possessing indecent images and breaching the terms of his sex offenders prevention order.

He was jailed for life and told he would not be considered for parole until he served 12 years in prison.

Hughes will be on license for life and barred from ever working with children and must sign on to the sex offenders register for life.

Judge Phillip Richards told the pair: “These were genuinely horrendous offences which include the rape of a young child who was three years old.

“It almost defies belief that any human being would do such a thing to such an innocent young child.

“You, Semmens, made that child available not once but twice to your paedophile friend and permitted him to carry out his vile activities with that young child in your bedroom.

“You knew full well he was a child abuser and the level of breach of trust is probably worse than Hughes.

“Each of you are going to spend a long time in prison before you see the light of day.”

Twisted cross-dressing paedophile who drugged and raped toddler posted sick YouTube nursery rhyme

Monster: Hughes dressed as a woman in Facebook pics

The paedophile who raped a toddler handed to him by a babysitter revealed his twisted thoughts about children in a chilling YouTube video.

Aaron Hughes sang a song from Disney Halloween comedy Hocus Pocus as a soundtrack to a gallery of creepy pictures of himself dressed up as a woman.

The monster, jailed for life, croons: “Come little children, I’ll take thee away, Into a land of enchantment.

“Come little children, The time’s come to play, Here in my garden of magic.”

Today the Sunday Mirror can reveal the pervert was also leader of a bizarre Facebook ghost-hunting gang in which he and babysitter accomplice Claire Semmens tried to summon the dead.

Bizarre: Hughes in heels

Semmens, 28, got 16 years last week for giving neighbour Hughes a three-year-old boy she was supposed to be caring for and allowing him to sedate and rape the youngster twice.

Hughes, who had already served six years for raping another child, filmed the horrifying attacks on his mobile.

His Hocus Pocus video was among 53 the cross-dressing paedophile uploaded to YouTube, mainly of him singing.

And his Facebook group features a picture of himself captioned “evil me” while a shot of Semmens is described as “demonic”.

In hundreds of photos Hughes wears make-up and high heels, with frizzy black hair and jewellery. Several snaps seem to show him wearing fangs.

He posted them under the name Aza, believed to be short for Azazel, Hebrew for demon.

One set of snaps appears to show Hughes and Semmens using a Ouija board. There is no suggestion other Facebook group members knew of the pair’s crimes.

Semmens, of Cardiff, admitted causing a child to engage in sexual activity and possessing indecent images. She is on the sex offenders register for life.

Hughes, 32, admitted two counts of rape, possessing indecent images and breaching the terms of his sex offenders prevention order. He must serve at least 12 years.

Judge Phillip Richards said: “It almost defies belief any human being would do such a thing to such an innocent young child.”
