Female paedophile living streets away from victim after being released early from prison

A female paedophile jailed for abusing a Birmingham schoolgirl is living streets away from her victim after being released from prison.

Paula Smith told last month how she was raped and sexually assaulted by 137 people from the age of 13.

Schoolteacher William Hannah, 66, his girlfriend Dianne Whitehouse, 61, and Ian McGlasson, 50, were sentenced to a total of 19 years.

Whitehouse was released early from her six-year sentence and is now living close to Paula in Birmingham.

The sex offender has even allegedly been goading her former victim on Facebook.

Paula, 22, said: She was actually released about a year ago and contacted the UK and Ireland Paedophile Database asking them to take her name off their site.

I later learned from the people who run the database that she had said online that she now lives near me and is looking forward to ‘bumping into me’.

A friend told the police but they said there is nothing they can do unless she actually does something to me, even though she is living so close to me.

Yet I was not even told she had been released. I should have been told.

Paula met schoolteacher Hannah at a Birmingham hotel after first being groomed and abused by McGlasson.

Hannah later introduced the schoolgirl to Whitehouse and the pair abused her together.

Paula – not her real name – said:

They were violent, forceful and threatening. She claimed she was a horse riding teacher. She also said a relative worked for an escort agency but said I couldn’t work there because of my age. But she said I could do the same thing for her.

Paula was raped at the age of 13 after being abducted from near her school. Her alleged attacker later took their own life when arrested by police.

Days later, she was groomed by McGlasson via Facebook.

Over the next two years he repeatedly abused the schoolgirl and also forced her to meet other paedophiles.

Hanna, from Acocks Green, was convicted of three counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of causing/inciting involvement in pornography. He was jailed for seven years.

Whitehouse, from Cannock, was found guilty of two counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of causing/inciting involvement in pornography.

McGlasson, from Stratford-upon-Avon, pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts of meeting a child following sexual grooming. He also admitted taking indecent photographs of a child and possessing indecent photographs of a child.

He was jailed for six years. The three were also all ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Former teacher and two others jailed for sexually exploiting teenager

THREE people including a former teacher have been jailed for a total of 19 years for sexually assaulting a teenage girl from Birmingham.

William Hanna, 63, Dianne Whitehouse, 58, and Ian McGlasson, 47, were all sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court today (17 June).

A jury heard how Hanna, of Florence Road, Acocks Green and Whitehouse, of Wellington Drive, Cannock, together repeatedly sexually assaulted the 15-year-old over a six month period in 2010, sometimes broadcasting the abuse live online.

Hanna was convicted of four out of six charges whilst Whitehouse was found guilty of three out of five charges. McGlasson admitted 10 of the 13 charges against him on the second day of a separate trial that took place earlier this year.

The prosecution described how the vulnerable young girl met all three offenders on internet chat rooms but had no idea of the depraved abuse that would be inflicted on her.

Hanna and Whitehouse operated together, assaulting the teenager at budget hotels in Birmingham city centre – but neither of the pair knew McGlasson, who committed the offences at his Stratford-upon-Avon home.

The offences only came to light when concerns were raised by the victim’s family and she later confided in specially trained police officers to whom she spoke of the horrific crimes.

A complex online investigation commenced by detectives who only had vague details about the offenders to go on.

McGlasson was the first to be arrested at his home on Brewery Street in Stratford in June 2010.

But the arrests of Hanna and Whitehouse did not come until several months later after officers identified him from painstakingly scrutinising thousands of internet records.

Hanna was immediately suspended from his job as a teacher at Frankley Community High School and was subsequently sacked when he was charged by police.

The victim did not attend the school and there was no evidence to suggest any pupils at the school were at risk.

On one occasion, the court heard a stranger appeared in the room, dressed in a cat suit, and had sex with the 15-year-old.

The teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was not a pupil at the school where Hanna taught.

Mr Cartwright said McGlasson also had sex with another 15-year-old girl.

Inspector Sally Simpson, who led the investigation, said: “This was a vulnerable young girl who had no idea what she was getting herself into.

“Tragically, because of her age and the fact she had been on internet chat rooms, she felt she could somehow be to blame for what happened to her.

“I hope this case highlights to other young people that action can be taken and it doesn’t matter how much trouble you think you’ve got yourself into, the police will listen to you and take you seriously.

“A range of measures are in place to protect anyone who comes forward and speaks to police, in this case the same specially trained officer supported the victim throughout the three year criminal justice process.

“We also have close relationships with specialist agencies that can provide further support.

“I’m pleased with the sentences given today and hope it offers some closure for the victim who can now try to move forward and put this terrible experience behind her.”

WHITEHOUSE – Convicted of two counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child and one count of causing/inciting involvement in pornography. Sentenced to four years and two years to run concurrently totalling six years. Given a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) and to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Victims mother speaks out

The victim’s mum, who cannot be named for legal reasons, discovered the abuse after McGlasson sent her a Facebook message in which he claimed to be her daughter’s boyfriend.

“I could not believe it,” the mum said. “He was older than my own husband. I tried to get my daughter to go to the police, but she had been brainwashed good and proper. I spoke to the police and I would do it again in an instant.

“I found some of the pictures from the hotel room online and it was horrendous.

“That has damaged me forever. It’s awful to know that it’s your child when you recognise a mole on a stomach and a charm on a necklace.

“I am glad they were handed proper jail sentences, but I wish it had been for longer. It will never be over for us. We have to live with this every day.

“I will always be paranoid and it has permanently damaged my daughter and our family.”

The victim’s mum only discovered that Hanna had been a teacher during yesterday’s court hearing. She added: “I just can’t believe that he had been teaching when all this was going on. They read out glowing references, but he was doing these vile things.

“They sat shaking their heads throughout and tried to say they thought she was 18, but there was no disguising my daughter’s age.

“Her Facebook had pictures of her in her school uniform.

“These people are in their late 40s, 50s and 60s. I just hope that, if anybody else has been a victim of them in the past, they have the bravery to come forward and speak to the police.

“I was terrified to go to court and face them. But I had to show that my daughter had a mother and there was no way I was hiding from them.”

Passing sentence, Judge Patrick Thomas QC said Hanna and Whitehouse had taken advantage of an “intensely troubled and damaged child” and “relished” her young age.

He told them: “You treated her not as a damaged child who needed protection, but as somebody who could be simply used as you wished.

“You involved her in sexual activity which must have had the effect of damaging her even further.”

Of the live streaming, the judge said: “In addition to the degradation of that child, she knows an unknown number of people have had the opportunity to view that degradation.”

Sally Hancox, for Hanna, said the court case was a “terrible legacy” for the final years of his teaching career.

Andrew Baker, for Whitehouse, said she had not been the prime mover and had only been involved in two of the four occasions sexual activity took place.

August 2007

A civil engineer who stored child abuse images on his laptop and was caught chatting online with a police officer posing as a schoolgirl has been jailed for 18 months.

Ian McGlasson, 41, confessed to police that he had not gone through with arranging a meeting with the girl because he had ‘come to his senses’ and thought ‘What the hell are you doing?’.
